Reading – Test your horizontal layout to maximize conversion rate

User-interface guru Jackob Nielsen’s concludes that Web users spend 69% of their time viewing the left half of the page and 30% viewing the right half. A conventional layout is thus more likely [to improve website conversion rate].

I’m playing with the two layouts above (both with the heatmap overlay) and will in the upcoming weeks be running an A/B split test of my layout to determine which will indeed have the highest conversion rate. Theory says it should be the Left Layout which has two call to actions (sign up) in the hot columns, compared with just one CTA in the Right Layout.

About the author: Paper Free Invoices started out as a small blog for my invoicing software business Paper Free Billing but has morphed into something much more useful. I’ve really enjoyed reading the guest articles and speaking with guest publishers so much so I’m always looking for talented bloggers to contribute.
